Travel That Gives Back

Go deeper with ethical travel that leaves a legacy of hope and dignity.

Our Commitment to Social Responsibility

At Tanzania Active Women Safaris, our work goes far beyond providing unforgettable journeys through the landscapes of Tanzania. As a women-owned and community-driven safari company, we believe that travel should empower—not just the travelers who join us, but also the communities we touch, the women we uplift, and the environment we depend on.

Empowering Women in & Trough Tourism

Tourism is a powerful vehicle for change, especially in Tanzania where rural communities face limited economic opportunities. We are proud to create space for women to thrive in an industry that has long been dominated by men. Our safaris are guided, operated, and supported by women—from trained female guides and chefs to lodge hosts and tour managers. This is not simply a branding choice—it’s a statement of belief that women deserve equal opportunity and voice in the tourism sector.

We also invest in long-term empowerment by providing training, mentorship, and job placement for young women aspiring to build careers in guiding, wildlife conservation, or hospitality. Our special “Women in the Wild” programs bring together women from different regions to learn skills, build confidence, and develop leadership in travel-related fields.

Education and Skill Development

We believe that education is the cornerstone of sustainable development. A portion of every safari booked with us goes into funding education programs focused on girls in remote regions of Tanzania. These programs include scholarships for secondary school, vocational training in hospitality and guiding, and language education.

For many of these girls, this support is the bridge between a life of limited options and one of independence and opportunity. In collaboration with community partners and educational NGOs like Tanzania Impact Vision, we also offer entrepreneurial training to empower women to start their own small businesses in craft-making, eco-tourism, or organic farming.

Community Partnerships and Local Impact

We work closely with rural communities, especially Maasai and other pastoralist groups, to ensure that tourism benefits local people directly. We collaborate on projects such as building water wells, supporting maternal health clinics, and improving infrastructure in underserved villages.

When guests travel with us, they don’t just pass through—they contribute. Our tours often include visits to community-run cooperatives, schools, and farms, where travelers engage in authentic cultural exchanges while helping to fund essential services through their participation.

Additionally, we encourage travelers to support our initiatives by bringing school supplies, reusable sanitary pads, or solar lanterns as donations—a small gesture that makes a big impact in places where resources are scarce.

Inclusivity and Accessible Travel

At Tanzania Active Women Safaris, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to explore the wild beauty of Africa. We are among the few safari companies in the region that actively promote inclusive and accessible travel for people with disabilities, including wheelchair users and travelers on the autism spectrum.

Our team is trained to provide autism-friendly travel experiences, with carefully designed itineraries that minimize sensory overload and promote comfort. For wheelchair users, we offer modified safari vehicles, accessible accommodations, and personalized support throughout the journey. We are passionate about breaking barriers and making the wilderness accessible for all.

Sustainability and Wildlife Conservation

As guardians of one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet, we take our role in environmental stewardship seriously. Our operations follow a strict eco-conscious policy, including using refillable water bottles, minimizing plastic use, and practicing low-impact camping.

We support wildlife conservation efforts by partnering with local rangers and community-based anti-poaching programs, particularly around Tarangire and Serengeti. Guests who travel with us are invited to learn about these efforts and, in some cases, participate in hands-on conservation experiences like tree planting, visiting wildlife corridors, or supporting elephant research.

Promoting Local Women Artisans and Entrepreneurs

We actively support local women’s cooperatives by including them in our tours and helping market their handmade goods. Whether it’s beaded jewelry, traditional Maasai shukas, or handwoven baskets, these crafts tell the story of Tanzanian culture—and provide essential income to the women who create them.

By purchasing from these groups, our guests invest directly in women’s economic independence. Beyond sales, we also provide workshops and digital training to help artisans reach wider markets through social media and e-commerce.

Transparency and Giving Back

We are transparent about how we give back. 5% of the income from each trip is directly allocated to community development projects, implemented in partnership with Tanzania Impact Vision. These funds go towards critical areas such as:

  • Clean water access
  • Reproductive health education
  • School infrastructure
  • Solar power for clinics and homes

Guests are always welcome to visit these initiatives during their safaris to see firsthand the difference their journey is making.

A Responsible Way to Explore Tanzania

For us, travel is not just about crossing destinations off a list—it’s about creating meaningful connections, amplifying unheard voices, and ensuring that the benefits of tourism reach every corner of the communities we serve.

Choosing Tanzania Active Women Safaris is more than a travel decision—it’s a commitment to ethical tourism, women’s empowerment, and community transformation. When you journey with us, you become part of a movement that believes travel can change the world—for the better.
